Attorney III Duties : Provide professional legal services for various types of litigation, including general commercial, construction, intellectual property, employment, and other disputes at Los Alamos National Laboratory (firm's). The selected candidate will both work independently and directly with outside counsel to develop and implement litigation strategies. Responsible for case assessments and counseling management on the status of litigation, potential outcomes and for proposing litigation approaches that meet institutional objectives. The position may also represent the contractor managing and operating firm's in disputes arising from its prime contract with the Department of Energy (DOE) / National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and in administrative proceedings, such as hearings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), New Mexico Human Rights Commission, and DOE whistleblower retaliation proceedings. May represent the contractor in connection with arbitrations and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Required to implement litigation management and regulatory requirements and to identify areas for improvement of its business practices in support of the organization's focus on preventive law. Also be required to lead and conduct internal investigations. Additionally, advise firm's Management in external investigations involving USDOJ, DOE-IG, Congress, GAO, etc. As part of a large legal organization responsible for all legal affairs at firm's, the selected candidate must be able to work cooperatively within a multi-disciplined legal organization, and routinely team with other in-house attorneys on relevant strategic and substantive issues that have resulted or could potentially result in litigation.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification : The candidate must have 8+ yeears of experience as a licensed attorney practicing in various areas of litigation. Should have Juris Doctorate degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Experience providing constructive and supportive legal advice and counsel to clients, advising them regarding the legal aspects and consequences of proposed courses of action, and identifying alternative courses of action that will avoid or minimize legal difficulties for the organization while also facilitating mission accomplishment is required. Must have active membership in good standing with the State Bar of New Mexico or the ability to obtain a license to practice law in the State of New Mexico within one year from date of hire. Must have Admission to practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico or the ability to obtain admission within one year from date of hire. Experience as the sole attorney or first-chair in litigation and arbitration is desired. Experience leading and conducting internal investigations is desired. Experience defending clients before administrative agencies is desired.
