Senior Paralegal
The candidate will handle duties that include: Under supervision of staff attorneys and Equal Opportunity Specialists, assist in investigations, litigation support, and public outreach to promote IER’s work to ensure compliance with the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Reviewing employer and government records and forms required to verify employees’ authorization to work in the United States, for the purpose of identifying potential unlawful patterns of discrimination based on citizenship status or national origin; populating and manipulating relational databases and spreadsheets (principally Excel), with pertinent data, to permit statistical analysis; Reviewing and analyzing documents, applications, internet materials, public databases and sensitive federal agency data related to temporary visa worker programs; Serving (up to approximately 30% of the time) as the primary point of contact to screen, respond to, and track workers’ and employers’ calls to IER’s hotlines, to provide general information about rights and responsibilities under the INA’s anti-discrimination provision, and, when appropriate, referring callers to appropriate educational materials or other federal agencies. Maintaining a pleasant phone manner and the ability to interview potentially aggrieved persons about employment-related discrimination and retaliation in a professional, thorough, and sensitive manner, are critical for this position. Screening calls to IER’s hotlines and providing callers with general information and referrals. Summarizing interviews, depositions and other transcripts, maintaining case files. Performing simple legal research, indexes, tracks and controls investigation materials, exhibits and other materials for investigative trips, at depositions and at hearings. Assisting attorneys in courtroom if needed; preparing exhibit cross-references. Screening documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Performing initial compilation of documents for production requests, and reviewing materials in response to IER’s production requests, subject to review by superiors and trial staff.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have demonstrated ability to conduct witness interviews, prepare clear written interview summaries, and complete related data entry with minimal supervision. Must be able to perform detailed searches of public records and data sources utilizing online databases and services, including Westlaw, TLO, and/or LexisNexis. Must be working under the direct and indirect supervision of Equal Employment Specialists, Attorneys, Special Litigation Counsels and Special Policy Counsel. Spanish language fluency (spoken) is highly preferred.
