Legal Specialist/Paralegal - Real Estate The candidate will examine complex real estate title documentation; identify and communicate issues and independently resolve title issues with title insurers, landlords, lenders, and opposing counsel. Will interact with local zoning, tax, building, planning, and recorder’s offices in connection with conducting due diligence on properties, resolving property/construction disputes/issues, and recording/filing applicable real estate legal documentation. Negotiate and influence legal and business positions with opposing counsel in connection with complex real estate documentation, including subordination agreements and estoppels. Perform legal research and analysis on federal, state, and local laws on a national level, present findings, and make recommendations on necessary next steps. Draft proposed changes to legal documentation when necessary. Respond to emergency property management and other situations when needed, drawing on a strong understanding of lease administration and real property management processes. Act as a resource for senior management and partner business units within the company, providing answers and information as needed related to real estate documentation. Participate in, and often manage, special projects as needed.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Paralegal Certificate. Must have an advanced understanding of complex real estate documentation and excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, document management systems, lease administration systems, and e-billing. 5-7 years’ experience in a law firm, title insurance company, or on an in-house legal team for a retailer or shopping center REIT or developer is required. 3+ years of experience in real estate or title matters is a must. Shopping center/retail experience is preferred.
