Youth Justice Staff Attorney The candidate will work onsite at ARC’s Los Angeles office and local youth detention centers to conduct holistic legal intakes of youth to assess for a client’s reentry legal needs. Develop an appropriate legal services plan of action in the areas of record cleaning, family and children, employment, housing, parole and probation, court debt, immigration, state identification, and any other legal issue area relevant to their successful reentry. Provide legal advice, warm referrals, and full representation as needed. Carry and independently manage a client caseload. Coordinate regular community legal clinics for youth in Los Angeles County. Elevate the barriers faced by clients in reentry to create structural and policy change that advances second chance opportunities and social justice. Build partnerships with local community groups and organizations focused on serving youth. Coordinate and lead training for directly impacted youth, social service providers, ARC staff, government agencies, and private corporations on key reentry legal topics. Collaborate with stakeholders such as public defenders, the District Attorney’s Office, state and local government, law school clinics, legal service organizations, and youth advocacy organizations to ensure the wellness and reentry success of justice-impacted youth. Assist in efforts to secure and maintain funding for the organization. Maintain necessary records for grant proposals, reports, and audits. Support public relations, development, communications, and storytelling projects. Other duties as requested based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
Qualification and ExperienceThe candidate should have 2 years of post-law school, and public interest legal experience. Ability to practice law in the state of CA, in good standing. Ability to manage a demanding caseload, take initiative, and meet critical deadlines. Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of clients and stakeholders. Demonstrated dedication to social, racial, and economic justice. Engaging public speakers to present know-your-rights legal presentations. Ability to travel within California to visit and represent clients. Proficiency in Spanish.
