Senior Coverage Counsel The candidate will manage coverage and extra-contractual litigation requiring the highest degree of legal complexity and coordination requiring specialized expertise to protect the interests of the company. Will manage all aspects of the litigation process in representation of the company. Provide legal counsel and insights in partnership with corporate law, underwriting and claims organizations on policy language, new product offerings and complex coverage interpretations to ensure continuous improvements to products, processes and operations. Work towards timely resolution of unique coverage issues and potential litigation by developing, prepare and implement coverage and/or extra-contractual litigation strategies for the highest complexity and exposure assignments requiring specialized expertise in line of business. Manage and oversee all aspects of litigation matters by assigning cases to outside counsel, partnering to establish litigation strategies and budget; coordinate activities; oversee progress; review litigation expenses, authorizing payments; and evaluate outside counsel performance. Resolve technical coverage issues within claims or underwriting units by providing legal advice and counsel. Resolve technical coverage issues and provide legal counsel to claims professionals and underwriters on coverage issues product development, product refresh, policy language and specials endorsements to address coverage matters. Ensure legal compliance by following regional, country and/or local laws and regulations and internal control requirements. Provide proactive insights and legal guidance by identifying opportunities for technical excellence, developing and delivering targeted training to the organization. Serve as a technical resource by mentoring lower level counsel or paralegals and sharing technical knowledge related to specific LOB expertise. Protect company's reputation by keeping claims information confidential. Should have a J.D. degree and 8+ years of experience in the attorney area and be a member of the Bar. Coverage/extra-contractual litigation experience with experience in insurance industry is preferred. Significant experience with First Party Property and Large Loss matters, including Business Interruption and CAT claims, is desired. Experience with providing advice and recommendations on Product Development and Underwriting Lines to assist with the delivery of differentiated products is an asset.
