Director, Corporate Counsel, Employment Law The candidate will provide review and timely advice on employment law matters across different departments and geographies. Will manage all aspects of employment-related litigation, including drafting responses to administrative charges, coordinating discovery responses, representing the company at mediation, arbitration and hearings, negotiating settlement agreements, and supervising outside counsel. Develop and implement workplace policies and procedures. Monitor employment law developments and implement (or assist with implementing) appropriate changes to corporate policies and practices Develop and deliver training to managers, Human Resource teams and other business partners. Partner with Human Resources, Corporate Compliance, and other internal clients to develop compliance strategies for global mobility and immigration issues, including expat and secondment arrangements. Collaborate with Human Resources, Corporate Compliance and other business partners on internal investigations. Counsel on a wide range of domestic and international matters, such as compensation, employee benefits, and trade secrets. Handle escalations from contingent workforce program regarding independent contractor classifications, provider worker on-boarding and temporary employee issues. Review agreements, conduct due diligence, and provide advice and counsel with respect to HR related agreements, including benefit and compensation agreements, HRIS systems and contracts pertaining to mergers and acquisitions. Provide timely advice and counseling to Human Resources and business units with regard to a wide range of employment law issues, including progressive discipline, wage and hour, RIFs, performance management, harassment, whistleblowing and disability accommodations. Learn and contribute to the ongoing development of the Legal Department contract templates and other processes. Provide support for Legal Department projects, including legal research and drafting of research memoranda on various issues as requested senior attorneys in the department. Appropriately manage a heavy workflow, setting priorities with internal clients and meeting deliverable timelines.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have 6-8 years prior experience in a major law firm, demonstrating growth and ability to succeed. J.D. degree is required from a nationally recognized law school. Current California Bar membership is required. Experience managing HR related litigation as well as counseling on non-litigation HR issues is essential. Prior in-house experience is preferred. Experience providing advice and counsel on employment-related matters is required. Experience advising pharmaceutical companies is desirable. Excellent organization and time-management skills required. Exceptional written and communication skill is required, including strong proofreading and editing skills. Strong computer skills in database management and documentation preparation (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Office) is required. Experience with project management, particularly projects relating to employment law is a plus.
