Litigation - General (consumer)
Min 5 yrs required
Legal Assistant Responsibilities: Receive service of process; record and assign file numbers for new claims and litigation; prepare initial letters to outside counsel. Enter information into matter management system; create litigation reports; maintain litigation files. Process legal invoices and interface with accounting and outside counsel on payment status. Coordinate archiving and destruction of closed files upon expiration of retention period; work with records management to track documents. Assist with litigation discovery requests and responses. Respond to subpoenas. Review non-disclosure agreements for accuracy and maintain NDA database. Assist with preparation and filing of immigration forms and related database management. Maintain corporate records relating to patent prosecution and trademark registration. Manage garnishment proceedings. Prepare and file quarterly recall reports with NHTSA and Transport Canada. Prepare and manage various license applications and renewals with federal and state agencies. Support Law Department operations by: answering phones, booking travel and appointments, managing calendars and ordering supplies. Prepare correspondence and presentations, track expenditures, assist visitors, open mail, and maintain files. Administer bar membership renewals. Serve as notary public. Assist with budget preparation and reserve reports. Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: At least 5 years’ experience supporting fast-paced litigation practice at law firm or in-house law department. Outstanding organization and interpersonal skills. Flexibility under pressure taking direction from multiple sources, including senior executives. Ability to manage priorities with competing importance. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
