Associate General Counsel The candidate will provide litigation support to our West region parent company businesses, including those located in California and Nevada. Will provide legal counsel and services to our Medicare, Medicaid and commercial lines of business on issues concerning the rights, obligations, risks and privileges of the organization. Manage litigation risks independently and where appropriate, hire and manage outside counsel, including managing strategy, tasks, and costs. Work to protect the organization's rights in litigation, settlements and contract negotiations. Support all parent company West region lines of business on risk management, pre-litigation and litigation issues. Provide legal advice and services on complex and sensitive matters regarding various laws applicable to health care concerning the rights, obligations, risks and privileges of the organization. Manage litigation risks independently, and where appropriate, retain and manage outside counsel on all aspects of arbitration and litigation on behalf of parent company. Provide legal advice and counsel and protect the organization's rights in litigation, settlements, and contract negotiations. Acquire deep knowledge of the industry and the specific business practices within parent company Group so as to best advise senior business leaders.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Juris Doctorate degree and admission to practice law in one State. CA or NV Bar Admission is preferred. Should have 7+ years of complex litigation experience. First-hand experience with pleadings, discovery, motion practice and trial preparation is required. Knowledge of U.S., state contract, corporate health care and regulatory law is needed. Experience with regulatory agencies and administrative experience with state insurance regulations is must. Understanding of health care benefit coverage and medical policy development is essential. First-hand complex litigation experience through arbitration hearing and/or state and/or federal court trial is needed. Prior managed care legal experience is preferred. Strong understanding of health insurance and / or managed care industry is an asset. Significant trial and / or arbitration experience in the state of California is helpful. Familiarity with California healthcare laws and regulations, including Knox Keene Act and MediCal as well as Medicare, commercial lines of business and HIPAA is preferred.
