Legal Assistant The candidate will interact with clients via verbal and written correspondence to ensure timely payment of patent and trademark maintenance fees. Key responsibilities include to the following; Check Prolaw and dockets for approaching deadlines; Calculate price quotes for each item due including exam and grant fees from foreign associates; Notify client of approaching deadlines and provide price quote, following up with reminders; Ensure each deadline is attended to as client has instructed (pay maintenance fee on USPTO/CPi, or instruct associate); Collect payment from client upfront for each deadline; Communicate with accounting department to ensure funds are applied to the correct matters; Consider if divisional applications or amendments are necessary when paying grant fees and filing request for exam; Validate allowed European patent applications into individual European countries; Respond to emails and save them in ProLaw; Ensure that any deadlines in emails from associates are docketed Enter annuity instruction from client to Cpi; Transfer data from Pro Law to Cpi; Review monthly invoices to ensure no overcharges’ Review and answer any data inquires; Review past deadlines to ensure correct action has been taken; Update contact information for clients; Monitor any changes to foreign patent annuity/exam/grant laws; Monitor new docket items to ensure correct docketing.. The preferred candidate would have law office experience, especially in the area of intellectual property law. Candidates should be familiar with Excel. Familiarity with ProLaw is also desirable but not mandatory. Competent letter writing skills are essential.
