Patent Attorney Responsibilities: Oversee the harvesting of records of invention to drive filing of patent applications. Oversee the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the U.S. and globally. Prepare freedom-to-operate opinions. Counsel business unit executives with respect to IP matters and strategy. Manage work of outside counsel in prosecution, on agreements, and in litigation. Counsel businesses with respect to non-infringement and invalidity positions. Educate clients on important aspects of intellectual property law. Advise business unit executives on enforcement of IP and conduct pre-suit infringement investigations. Negotiate and draft intellectual property agreements. Conduct and supervise post-grant proceedings in the U.S. and other jurisdictions.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering or chemistry (or comparable training). JD degree with strong academic performance. Licensed to practice law in a state and admission to practice before the USPTO. 8+ years legal experience (preferably at both a law firm and in-house). 5+ years of experience in patent prosecution or prosecution management. Experience with direct client contact. Ability to travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally. Basic knowledge of US and international trademark law, policies, and processes. Experience working in a complex matrixed environment . Preferred: 2+ years helping with the management of a large global trademark portfolio. Ability to provide support in a wide range of other intellectual property issues, including trademark matters. Strong background in science and technology. Good public speaking ability.
