Juvenile Rights Practice Assistant Attorney-in-Charge The candidate will work closely with the borough Attorney-in-Charge in the overall administration of the office. Will be involved in all aspects of day-to-day operations and works closely with the Borough Attorney-in-Charge to train, supervise and mentor staff. Participates in Practice-wide management discussions and decision-making and is responsible for maintaining relationships with other stakeholders in the legal, court, and service communities. Together with the Borough Attorney-in-Charge, provide legal and managerial leadership for the Juvenile Rights Practice in the assigned Trial Office. Provide direct supervision and training support to Juvenile and Adolescent Defender Practitioners. Monitor and maintain high standard of representation and client service. Respond to client, community and staff concerns. Evaluate office needs and identify necessary resources to address the needs. Analyze legal issues, develop legal strategy and supervise its implementation. Foster and encourage teamwork and communication. Reinforce and maintain staff accountability. Evaluate and develop skills and knowledge of staff members. Evaluate conflicting demands and prioritize workload. Represent the Juvenile Rights Practice and Legal Aid in the community. Other duties as assigned. Must have admission to the New York State Bar. Should have 3+ years of legal practice in family and juvenile law. Substantial Juvenile or Criminal Defense experience required. Supervisory experience preferred. Should have a demonstrated commitment to addressing fundamental issues of juvenile justice and strong knowledge of child welfare within an interdisciplinary model of representation and an interest in creative approaches to management and staff development.
