Office of the Attorney General Job Announcement DIVISION: Child Support - Training 344 INTERNAL POSTING POSTING NUMBER: 19-0006 JOB TITLE: Assistant Attorney General IV WORKING TITLE: Attorney Trainer MONTHLY SALARY: $6,115.82-$6,672.65 DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS POSTING DATE: September 7, 2018 DURATION: Until Filled LOCATION: 5500 E. Oltorf, Austin, TX 78741 GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs complex (journey-level) legal work for the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) as a Child Support Division (CSD) attorney trainer. Work involves conducting classroom, on-the- job, and customized training sessions in legal topics related to the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES). Assesses training needs and provides post training support to CSD attorneys and non-attorney staff. Develops online curricula and uses other distance learning technologies to maximize cost effective training strategies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Schedules, coordinates, and conducts attorney and non-attorney training classes in a variety of venues, including regional training centers, offsite training facilities, conference rooms, hotels, and free available training space; develops presentation training materials, including PowerPoint slide shows, training aids, and handouts; and oversees and maintains the updates to assigned training modules and supporting documentation Serves as a subject matter expert on assigned topics, including but not limited to: civil procedures, family law, and TXCSES functional areas; interprets laws and regulations; demonstrates considerable knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and state laws; serves as Training representative and legal resource on future CSD projects; maintains and develops online curricula using software such as Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline Utilizes distance learning mediums such as WebEx webinar and videoconferencing technology Provides technical assistance/ post training advice to CSD staff on complex questions, and participates in solving training inquiries or issues; consults with regional administrator, state office management, and Training section to resolve training issues/ problems and makes recommendations for resolution; identifies training needs to include legal courses available to staff, specialized training for CS regions, and statewide conference topics for granting continuing legal education (CLE) credits; formulates, implements, and monitors training plans to meet specific needs of the CSD Plans and directs the implementation of educational programs, services, and activities at the statewide level; evaluates the effectiveness of training programs; compiles data and prepares periodic training reports as required; performs administrative tasks to include devising training schedules/ calendars and maintaining class and student information on the Learning Management System; and prepares travel requests and reimbursements, generates participants training book requests for publication and dissemination, and completes forms for scheduling training classes Performs related work as assigned Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J. D.) degree Certifications: Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas Certifications: Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas Experience: Three years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney Experience and expertise in legal case processing through TXCSES Experience in delivery of adult learning principles Experience in the design of a variety of training materials and online training development Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code Knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices relevant to the assigned division within the agency Knowledge of training procedures and techniques Knowledge of written and published materials Skill in preparing and delivering presentations to varied audiences (a 15-20 minute presentation on a legal topic of the interviewee’s choosing will be required at the interview for this position) Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines Skill in effective oral and written communication Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment Ability to provide excellent customer service Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
