IBRF Research Operations Manager The candidate will create and maintain a fully integrated, trusting and collaborative environment between research staff, Facility Managers, EHS staff, Quality Staff, SITE Operations Facility Manager, and DOE Golden Field Office Staff. Will ensure that all activities are conducted within the safety envelope for the facility and are conducted under appropriate work authorization. Update the Hazard Analysis Report (HAR) for the facility, in consultation with ES&H subject matter experts, as necessary to maintain the safety envelope for the facility. Manage the items relied on for safety (IROFS) identified in the HAR. Support research line management in understanding laboratory safety baselines, identifying and managing hazards, developing and maintaining configuration control, and developing a more consistent approach to hazard identification and control and associated documentation. Coordinate required resources to ensure facility and research operations run efficiently. Assist the Research Operations Director in developing and executing configuration management, maintenance management, facilities planning, emergency response planning, and other programs to improve safety and research readiness.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a relevant Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience OR relevant Master's degree and 7+ years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience OR relevant Ph.D. and 4+ years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience OR relevant J.D. degree and 4+ years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Degree and/or certification in engineering, science, or safety field is preferred. Experience in fermentation, biochemical engineering, or biopharma desired. Should have a working understanding of applicable codes and standards applied to the work in the IBRF including ANSI, ASME, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA. Prior experience working collaboratively in a research environment with scientists, engineers, management, and support staff an asset. Knowledge of R&D process and work flows in a non-industrial setting is a plus. Working knowledge of and/or experience with Emergency Response activities is ideal. Knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management, Hazard ID and Control, and other industrial hygiene and safety procedures is preferred. Prior experience working in a DOE laboratory is desired. Prior experience developing and implementing large programs and processes is a plus.
