Paralegal Duties: Responsible for working collaboratively with staff attorneys to assist and screen litigants for eligibility, schedule appointments, conduct client interviews, help maintain project data and reports, legal research and drafting legal documents; oversee the physical needs of the project including maintaining client files and pleadings, ensuring supplies are kept stocked, equipment is functioning properly, and provide individuals with educational materials and referrals regarding various legal issues. Conduct community-based workshops to advance the mission of JAAVA. Provide administrative assistance at legal clinics as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have one of the following: Paralegal certificate, B.A. or B.S. degree with 1 year of experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Experience working with low-income individuals and families preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Computer literate in MS Office. Working knowledge of court forms and court procedures preferred. Must have excellent organizational, administrative and writing skills. Ability to work well in a busy environment, enjoy working with the public and working collaboratively with a small staff.
