Job Overview:

A law firm in Kansas City, MO, is seeking a Patent Agent to assist patent attorneys with preparing and prosecuting patent applications. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors, provide insights into patentable inventions, and assist in the patent application. Key Responsibilities:

• Assist patent attorneys with drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Collaborate with inventors on newly developed products and innovations.
• Identify patentable inventions and ensure compliance with legal standards.
• Research existing patented technologies to advise clients.
• Draft and file patent applications with the support of the patent team.
• Monitor the entire patent application process from submission to approval.
• Perform ability searches to determine patentability.
• Respond to client needs and solve challenges related to patent law.
• Prepare responses to office actions from the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Maintain communication with the USPTO and other regulatory bodies.
• Consistently meet established billable hour targets.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering (required).
• Master’s degree or PhD (preferred).
• USPTO registration (required).
• Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in patent law or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience preferred.
• Background in electrical engineering or biotechnology (preferred).
