Corporate Attorney
The candidate will support the company's US and Canadian operations by providing practical and business-oriented legal advice and counselling to management and Human Resources professionals on a range of employment and workforce-related legal issues such as recruiting; hiring; employee relations; discipline and terminations; leaves of absence; accommodations, wage and hour compliance; EEO compliance; restrictive covenants; contingent worker issues and reductions in force. Will also be tasked with drafting and advising on HR-related policies; assisting on internal investigations; managing workforce-related compliance and training programs and reviewing and advising on employment-related vendor agreements and programs. Provide (or manage the provision of) legal counsel, advice and guidance on employment and workforce matters in connection with the company's operations in the US and Canada, as directed, to insure maximum protection of the company's legal rights, mitigation of legal risks and continued legal compliance while protecting the best interests of the company. Provide legal support for the company's Human Resources organization with respect to matters arising in the US and Canada. Provide counseling on a variety of employment-related matters, including disability accommodations, leaves of absence, employment discrimination and harassment claims and charges, discipline and termination matters, reductions-in-force, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenants, personnel policies and procedures. Provide expertise in the development, implementation and management of company policies and practices, including those relating to the ADA, FMLA, and various state/local disability and leave laws. Prepare and conduct training programs for HR and people managers. Supervise outside counsel in the defense of employment-related claims. Promote efficient and effective dispute resolution of potential and actual disputes. Effectively maintain records and files of legal department for matters handled or managed.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a Bachelor's or four-year degree from an accredited college or university. Should have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Should be licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction of residence. Must have 3+ years of experience as a practicing attorney. Experience representing Fortune 500 companies on labor and employment matters a plus. Experience with legal issues presented by California and Canadian workforces preferred. Spanish skills a plus.
