Director - IRS Audits The candidate will manage all federal and state income tax audits in an controlled and efficient manner by tracking all inquiries, responses, adjustments and settlements. Own the relationship with the IRS and state auditors by building and maintaining strong working relationships. Develop strategies to minimize audit exposure and risk and partner with senior tax management to execute audit strategies. Develop strategies to answer audit request while minimizing negative adjustments and defending audit exposures. Update management on audit status and proactively alert management of any audit issues. Gather, organize and present data in response to inquiries from federal and state auditors. Follow all required audit procedures and accurately and timely respond to audit requests. Partner with colleagues across the company to ensure required data is provided to accurately. Own and manage the relationships with external auditors with a focus on building trust. Create and maintain effective and efficient audit processes, including tracking all audit related activities such as audit claims, adjustments, document requests, responses, statute expirations, with a focus on strong internal controls. Stay current on IRS and state audit rules and procedures. Develop and maintain external network of audit professionals and advisors that can be utilized to deal with unique audit situations.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Accounting or Finance. Master’s Degree in Tax. J.D., CPA or MBT. Should have 7-10 years of relevant industry experience. Experience with IRS and state audit practice and procedure including audit defense and dispute resolution is needed. Should have experience with large corporate tax returns and the ability to gather, organize and present large volumes of tax return data. Must have ability to build trust, and create and maintain strong working relationships with taxing authorities.
