San Diego office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks a senior criminal defense attorney with 10+ years of experience working in criminal law. The candidate will be handling a large caseload and familiar with all aspects of the trial process, particularly drafting pleadings, motions, and notices, and working toward a resolution. Will anticipate, prepare for, and attend trials, mediation, and arbitration on behalf of clients. Argue motions in court on behalf of clients during legal proceedings. Keep apprised of changes to local, state, and federal statutes and laws. Prepare legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, notices, and discovery requests/responses. Complete legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs. Manage a caseload of felonies and misdemeanors. Maintain client files in an organized fashion to ensure up-to-date information is handy for other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. Provide mentorship to less experienced attorneys at the firm with respect to trial advocacy, and case settlement involving complex legal issues. Prepare for and attend arraignments, readiness conferences, probation revocations, sentencing hearings, etc. Effectively litigate pre-trial hearings, motions (e.g. preliminary hearings, PC 1538.5 motions, PC 995 motions, etc.), and jury trials. Negotiate plea bargains or negotiated dispositions at the misdemeanor and felony readiness conferences. Ability to independently first chair felony and/or misdemeanor jury trials. Counsel clients as to their legal defenses, constitutional rights, and strategies with respect to their cases; consistently communicate with clients as to the status of their cases. Conduct research and draft pleadings, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and motions. Conduct administrative DMV hearings for DUI cases. Assist in the preparation of defending against and prosecuting temporary restraining orders. Prior experience representing clients in trials, mediation, and arbitration is essential. Must be a Member of State and local Bar associations in good standing.
