Principal, Associate General Counsel The candidate will serve as the Company's regulatory lawyer, providing advice and guidance to other business attorneys, compliance and management on a wide variety of regulatory issues that impact the day-to-day operations of a growing, complex company operating in a heavily-regulated environment. Provide and coordinate regulatory counseling and oversight across the enterprise focusing on a broad range of regulatory topics including, among others, the FCRA, RESPA, Privacy, Antitrust, ECOA, fair lending laws, TILA, laws and regulations impacting marketing and advertising. Conduct analysis and advise on potential business impact of proposed and enacted statutes as well as proposed and adopted regulations. Work in a hands-on manner with product development and sales personnel as products are developed and enhanced by providing timely, strategic and proactive advice and driving intelligent risk-taking and creative solutions. Provide primary legal support for the Companyâ€™s Compliance function, and work to resolve regulatory inquiries, investigations and adversarial proceedings. Participate actively in trade groups, bar association committees and projects and coordinate with colleagues and attorneys working in similar fields who have similar challenges or impacts to legislation. Manage outside counsel.
Qualification and Experience
A Bachelorâ€™s Degree and J.D. degree required. Must have 10 years of direct regulatory professional work experience in-house or in a law firm representing consumer financial services clients in regulatory matters. Should have broad experience representing financial services clients with 3 years of experience representing mortgage originators and servicers or in the consumer credit industry. Must be highly experienced in analyzing legislation and proposed regulations. Should have experience in meeting with regulatory agencies and advocating legal and business considerations. Must have strong leadership and client-focused sales skills as well as strong people and project management skills. Should have well-developed ability to partner with multiple business units and internal/external stakeholders to ensure the companyâ€™s objectives are met. Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of the broad scope of consumer regulatory matters impacting the financial services industry; industry knowledge of government regulatory agencies and GSEs a plus.
