Executive Counsel - IP, GE Renewable Energy The candidate will operate as an integral member of the legal leadership team of GE Renewable Energy. Will provide strategic guidance on the growth of patent portfolios that strengthen the businessâ€™ competitive position in key markets. Work to secure freedom-to-practice for future technology and product roadmaps of the business. Provide counsel to the business on licenses, collaboration agreements, and other third party transactions impacting the protection, acquisition, transfer or other disposition of IP rights. Lead investigations into encroachments of REâ€™s IP rights and counsel on potential enforcement actions. Counsel the business on evolving developments in global IP law, recommending policy / process changes as needed to achieve business goals and efficiencies. Support the finalization of research agreements with Universities and partnership on funded research activities. Manage a small team of IP lawyers and develop legal talent proactively. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant industries in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business from a legal standpoint and help to differentiate itself from the competition. Work closely with other legal functional leaders to support related matters (e.g., litigation, sourcing, etc.). Manage overall legal budget for IP, including all outside counsel spend. Work with other counsel in GE Renewable Energy and other GE businesses to develop best practices and strategic advice. Support other initiatives as directed by the General Counsel of GE Renewable Energy. Must have Bachelorâ€™s Degree in a technical field, engineering, science, or physics from an accredited university or college with an advanced degree in law, patents, or Intellectual Property and/or equivalent knowledge / experience. Significant experience in IP litigation practice in a major law firm, with solid practical experience in US IP or patent law and litigation is required. Must have significant active intellectual property litigation experience (i.e., depositions, trial, witness preparation, fact investigation, negotiating settlements). Must be a member in good standing of one or more state Bars or the D.C. Bar and where required, in house counsel registration or admission to the local state Bar or local country equivalent. Knowledge of laws, regulations, practices and procedures relating to procurement of patents in countries is a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills are preferred. Should preferably have persuasive with executive-level communication skills. Experience setting legal organizational strategy is a plus. Experience managing professional legal commercial teams, and negotiating IP related contracts is preferred. Strong global experience is a plus.
