A heavy civil construction company headquartered in Antioch (Eastern Contra Costa County) and its affiliates have an immediate opening for an experienced attorney to join their unified legal department.  The position is full-time permanent but, given the legal department’s immediate needs, candidates seeking only an immediate temporary engagement will be considered for engagement until the full-time, permanent position is filled.

It is preferred that the candidate be a member in good standing of the California State Bar, but a member in good standing of other State Bar's will be considered. We MAY consider a candidate in the process of obtaining their State Bar. Candidate MUST have earned a J.D. from a law school accredited by the ABA, and, most importantly, MUST have significant relevant experience with construction industry clientele.  Candidate will be:   reviewing and successfully negotiating construction contracts; handling construction contract-related disputes through dispute resolution procedures, stop notices, mechanic’s liens, and bond claims; and representing construction industry clientele, as plaintiffs/claimants and also as defendants/respondents, in litigation and arbitration matters.  Most duties will concern the foregoing.  The person will handle a heavy workload.  The person will work under the direction of the company’s general counsel and the company president.  The ideal candidate will have experience as in-house counsel for a construction company and be currently admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (but neither of those two things are candidate requirements).

The head company, a leader in its field, offers a very competitive salary and provides a pleasant work environment.  Qualified candidates are encouraged to respond by sending a cover letter, current resume, and a recent writing sample (unedited by others) to the attention of “General Counsel”.
