Senior Legal Counsel, Product
The candidate will be responsible for: Partnering with the business as a trusted advisor and providing proactive and solution-oriented legal and regulatory guidance to enable the product and engineering teams to develop, enhance, implement, and market PayPal products and services. Working cross-functionally to identify, analyze and mitigate risks (and maximize opportunities) related to the introduction of new PayPal products and services and/or expansion into new geographies. Interpreting obligations under commercial agreements with merchants and partners as they relate to PayPal merchant product and services. Reviewing, updating and drafting PayPal user agreements, privacy statements and other external facing terms and conditions, in partnership with other members of the PayPal Legal team. Reviewing and advising on the development of external facing marketing and user content and user experiences. Working with Enterprise Risk, Compliance and Legal team colleagues across our global organization in the assessment of applicable regulations and development of company standards. Representing company’s interests and actively managing external counsel, as appropriate. Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across the global organization. Providing training to business partners on relevant topics. Should have 5-7 or more years of experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, with at least 4 years of those years focused on either payments law, the FinTech space, or financial services regulatory analysis in an international environment. Must have ability to provide timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on payments law, including federal and state consumer financial laws and regulations like Regulation E; data privacy laws; and consumer protection laws. Should have ability to provide legal and regulatory guidance on the design and modification of products, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures, and help document guidance for consumption by members of both the Legal and Product and Engineering teams. Must have familiarity with, and strong interest in, PayPal, Venmo, mobile and alternative payments, emerging payments technology and the payments industry. Should have outstanding written and oral communication skills and ability to work both in teams and independently. Prior product legal experience in the technology or financial services space and/or working with strategic partners to launch joint product experiences recommended. Must have Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree. Should have admitted to, and in good standing with, a state bar.
