Attorney Duties: The candidate is responsible for providing legal counsel and support to staff of ODVA and specifically to assist the duties and responsibilities that fall under the General Counsel. Serves as agency legal counsel, conducting legal research, providing legal consultation; briefs and drafts; and legal advice. Establishes, develops and maintains contact with Executive Director, Deputy Director, Commissioners, Administrators and professional staff in providing legal consultations. Negotiate settlements. Assists with planning and drafting legislative or regulatory proposals. Reviews legal documents, including but not limited to Contracts, Agreements, Powers of Attorney, Probate Pleadings and/or Guardianship Letters. Assists in preparing, editing, coordinating and distributing news releases. Coordinates agency’s collection of delinquent maintenance charges. Represents agency in judicial and administrative legal proceedings, including but not limited to Merit Protection Commission, EEOC, etc. Drafts legal instruments, communication, and manages or advises on legal transactions. Manages the complaint and investigation processes. Other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification: The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctorate degreefrom an ABA accredited law school. Interest in matters related to state or federal agencies, military and veterans issues, government contracts, estates, probates, and guardianships is preferred. Must be a member of the Oklahoma Bar OR be scheduled to sit for the summer Oklahoma Bar Exam. Recent law school graduates are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of English usage, laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, including grammar and composition; of agency's objectives; critical thinking abilities; and of editing techniques and procedures is essential.
