Bilingual Staff Attorney Duties: Work closely with Senior Staff Attorney, Legal Advocacy Program Manager, and client services team to ensure that Spanish- and English-speaking clients understand their legal rights and options, providing support and guidance so they can make the decisions that meet their needs and goals. Your work will further BARCC’s mission of ending sexual violence through healing and social change. Provide legal services to sexual assault survivors and significant others; assess clients’ needs, provide information and advocacy, identify legal options, provide referrals and assistance in accessing other legal services. Focus on navigating the criminal justice and court systems, safety, privacy, immigration issues, and employment/school matters. Collaborate with Senior Staff Attorney on program improvements and new program development, regularly giving feedback and making recommendations for improvement. Work closely with client services staff to coordinate services and a smooth continuum of care for clients. Provide consultations to other advocates working with survivors at partner and community agencies. Navigate a range of agencies and systems relevant to the legal needs of clients, including law enforcement, prosecutors, employers, and universities. Collect program-related data, prepare written updates and progress reports. Provide training to staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders on topics related to sexual violence and the law. Provide regularly scheduled evening hours to meet client availability until 7:00 p.m. twice per week. Be an ambassador of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, inclusivity, and mutual respect. Collaborate on other projects as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD degree and current Massachusetts Bar License. Bicultural Spanish and English fluency, both written and verbal. 2+ years of experience providing direct service to clients, such as legal advocacy and/or experience in sexual violence field. Experience working with trauma survivors and/or underserved communities. Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task, and possess excellent communication and comfortable working with a computer database. Demonstrated commitment to BARCC’s mission and philosophy.
