Education Services Specialist, GS-1740-11 Duties: The candidate will support the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) missions of safeguarding Nation's maritime interests in the heartland, in the ports, at sea, and around the globe. Will serve as the Education Services Specialist directing the Base Seattle education program and provides direction and guidance to military and civilian subordinates. Providing educational and vocational advising services, which includes interviewing and compiling personal and academic histories; reviewing secondary and post-secondary educational transcripts and academic aptitude test results; assisting with the establishment of realistic educational and vocational goals; providing information concerning occupational characteristics and their requirements; and providing guidance based upon aptitude, interest, and/or achievement assessments. Assisting with degree plan applications and acts as direct liaison with directors of military degree completion programs. Providing advice and assistance in the implementation of programs or projects, which are moderate complexity, covering one or more specific areas within an educational program. Preparing testing schedule and provides guidance to members (military and civilian) and military spouses in the interpretation of examination results. Creating and presenting briefs regarding educational opportunities.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: The candidate should have 1+ year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 09 grade level in the Federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: administering a variety of educational service programs; providing educational counseling and assistance; managing an educational resources center; and administering a variety of tests; conducting interviews to determine clients' educational needs; reviewing tuition assistance requests using established agency guidelines to make a final decision (i.e., approve, disapproving).
Should hav Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
Must have combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and theories of adult education and career advising is essential. Knowledge of tests and measurements, and continuing adult education is essential. Knowledge of career planning as it relates to member's occupational interests and needed training and education to fulfill educational goals is essential.
