ProfileSenior Staff Attorney The candidate will conduct nationwide impact litigation in state and federal courts and identify and develop potential new cases and litigation opportunities, including amicus briefs, that advance gender justice. Will manage firm’s advice and counseling hotline by training and supervising the litigation and direct legal services work of junior staff attorneys, as well as firm legal fellows and law student interns. Undertake and support other firm legal staff in conducting community outreach and education and developing training and self-advocacy materials on firm’s core issues for advocates, organizers, and lay audiences. Work closely with firm’s legal and non-legal program staff to develop and implement communication strategies that promote and magnify the impact of our legal work.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree and active Bar membership, preferably in NY, ability to waive into NY, or willingness to sit for the NY Bar exam. Must have track record of substantial impact litigation experience, including experience in federal court. Superior legal research and analytic skill is essential. Experience supervising, training, and/or mentoring attorneys, law fellows and law clerks is essential. Must have experience working directly with clients from diverse backgrounds and populations, including communities of color, low-wage workers, immigrants, and LGBTQ individuals. Experience working with external co-counsel or in coalition settings with multiple organizational partners is essential. Experience working in a team setting and fostering a collaborative approach to case work and other advocacy efforts is essential.
