Paralegal – Universal Creative
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists attorneys by drafting and reviewing boilerplate, agreements and amendments; drafting, tracking and managing transaction schedules, checklists, documents; reviewing intellectual property usage for compliance with licenses. Assists in maintaining and developing department tickler/calendar systems, status reports, regulatory and operational licenses, corporate and intellectual property records, and tracking compliance obligations for international and domestic transactions; supports attorneys in assembling transactional presentations and closing binders. Assists primary translator and provides oral interpretation/translation to and from foreign language (Mandarin Chinese) and English at project meetings, phone conversations and conferences; provides informal interpretation/translation/editing of documents, and correspondence between English and foreign language (Mandarin Chinese). Conducts business, cultural, legal and technical research as required by transaction team. May be required to travel on business trips overseas to perform duties. Moderately routine; general policies applied. Some decision-making; detailed understanding of technical issues. Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring high degree of tact.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: High school degree or GED is required. Associate’s degree (AA) is required. Paralegal Certificate (Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university acceptable in lieu of a Paralegal Certificate). Bachelor’s degree is preferred – B.A. in Legal Studies or a related field. 2+ years' corporate legal or law firm experience required; 3-5 years' preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to speak and read Mandarin in a business environment and be familiar with business and social customs in Beijing/China a plus. Current experience and knowledge of life and business practices in Beijing, China a plus.
