ProfileParalegal The candidate serves the Authority and the Legal Department by providing legal assistance for assigned section, i.e., Litigation, Workers’ Compensation, Corporate, Outside Counsel and/or Real Estate. Performs legal research, compiles and analyzes data, prepares legal correspondence, pleadings, discovery, subpoenas and other related documents, updates and maintains files for all cases both in-house and outside. Finalizes closure of in-house litigation case files to be forwarded to Archives and/or Record Center pursuant to the appropriate retention schedule. Acts as the official Notary Public for the organization. Performs legal research and compiles and analyzes data. Obtains information concerning proceedings, court records and filings, titles, liens, and case activity. Obtains documents and information within firm to respond to discovery, and provides them to firm attorneys. Assists attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings and trials, as needed. Organizes and maintains case, workers’ compensation, and/or property files, both physically and electronically. Scans, stores electronically and physically files correspondence, discovery and pleadings. Enters litigation and other matters into case management software system. Reviews, prints and stores workers’ compensation filings and alerts attorneys to significant filings by other parties or the Board. Identifies physicians associated with workers’ compensation files and obtains physician records. Prepares and maintains calendars for workers’ compensation claims. Prepares legal correspondence, forms, documents, deposition and record summaries, and responses to requests for information under the Open Records Act. Prepares draft discovery responses for review by attorneys. Files legal documents at the appropriate state and federal courthouses. Prioritizes requests and work assignments based on case filings and time constraints. Attends court hearings with attorneys and complete litigation reports. Schedules depositions and witness meetings.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have High school graduate with Paralegal certification. Should have 5+ years of legal experience in the assigned area and/or legal secretarial experience. A Bachelor's Degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience is required. Must be a Notary Public and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows and a general knowledge of litigation case management is must. Experience with LexisNexis research, E File and Abacus systems and WordPerfect is desired.
