Business Transition Strategist The candidate support financial orts the entire Northeast region (not tied to a specific office) and is responsible for deepening and broadening relationships with existing business owner clients, as well as developing/bringing new business owner client relationships (generally with $3M+ EBITDA) into Wealth Management. The Strategist works alongside relationship teams to assess goals, objectives, and current situation of business owner clients and prospects through a discovery process to determine the most appropriate planning offering. As part of the business owner client experience, the Business Transition Strategist may offer conversations, illustrations, single issue analysis and fully coordinated engagements for business owner clients focused on succession planning, keep-sell decision making, educating and assessing transition alternatives including management buyouts, sales to strategic partners, equity and debt recapitalizations, ESOPs and or family transfers and related topics such as valuation, value creation, buy-sell agreements and transaction structuring. Provides support to all team members as a subject matter expert in the area of business transition planning. In partnership with the Regional Wealth Planning team, the Business Transition Strategist is involved in educating and presenting to strategic partners, acts as a technical resource for internal and external presentations, and is responsible for educating and training other advisors. Responsible for coordinating and collaborating with the valuation, M&A, and ESOP teams. The Business Transition Strategist, in conjunction with the Regional Wealth Planning Team, is responsible for determining the fee and scope of the engagement, the services to be provided, and for developing the overall planning roadmap to meet the business owner needs. Also responsible for supervision, preparation, and approval of planning analysis associated with business transition aspects of planning engagements. The Strategist collaborates with the Senior Director of Planning, the Regional Wealth Planning Manager, and the rest of the Regional Planning team to promote wealth planning and business transition planning both internally and externally. Monitors and tracks client revenues related to business transition planning work to ensure sales opportunities are maximized. Adheres to all planning protocols and procedures. Reports to the Senior Director of Planning, with dual reporting to the National Head of Business Transition Planning. Responsible for travel to the various markets in the Northeast Region pursuant to a Regional coverage strategy developed by the Business Transition Strategist and the Senior Director of Planning, and as necessary to deliver services to business owner clients across the region.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have preferable one or more of the following credentials: CFA, CFP, JD, CPA, Certified Business Exit Planner (CExP), Certified Exit Planner Advisor (CEPA), American Society of Appraisers (ASA). should have 8+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: tax, financial, or wealth planning. Strong client interaction skills as well as successful consultative sales ability is preferred. Must have 10+ years of experience working with middle market and/or closely held businesses in business banking, investment banking, business valuation, corporate finance, or in the tax/accounting or legal practice area of corporate transactions.
