Assistant Unit Chief-early Intervention Unit The candidate under the general supervision of the Unit and Deputy Unit Chief, the Assistant Unit Chief of the Early Intervention Unit assists the Unit and Deputy Chief in overseeing the daily operations of the Unit. The duties for this position will include: Oversight and training of the Pleading and Representation Group [â€œPRGâ€]; Oversee Employee Representation Notice process â€“ ensure notification sent and establish a follow-up process with agencies; Oversight of the divisionâ€™s Requests for Legal Representation; Training and coordinating the activities of the support staff and attorneys to maximize the staffâ€™s full potential; Identify and interview key non-party witnesses, such as first-responders and bring them in to preserve their recollections; Chair weekly PRG meetings to discuss relevant issues that arise, stay abreast of important case law and recent representation decisions, and facilitate team building; Oversee data entry protocols for both Law Manager and Hot Docs; Identify matters eligible for early settlement; and obtain Comptroller authority; Settle cases; Review, assign, and edit motion papers; Collect and report PRG statistics; and Assist in general management of the EIU.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have: substantial legal experience in all areas of municipal tort law. Should have strong legal analytical skills; demonstrated exceptional organizational, managerial, and supervisory abilities. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and judgment; superior writing ability. Should have superior negotiation skills; knowledge of case assessment and settlement values; and knowledge of computer systems, Law Manager, HotDocs, Sharepoint outlook calendar, outlook, excel, OAISIS, and PowerPoint are preferred.
