Intellectual Property Paralegal The candidate will help manage the IP function and will report to the Manager, Intellectual Property. Will help monitor and maintain Discoveryâ€™s trademark portfolio, be actively involved in clearing marks for use and registration, and prepare and file US copyright applications for the companyâ€™s programming assets. Monitor and maintain Discoveryâ€™s U.S. and foreign trademark portfolio. Conduct preliminary domestic and international trademark searches. Assist in the review and analysis of trademark search reports and watch notices. Prepare and file trademark applications and renewals with the USPTO. Communicate with internal business units with respect to trademark matters. Coordinate with outside counsel with respect to filing and prosecution of foreign trademark applications and enforcement matters. Prepare, file and maintain US Copyright applications. Research infringement complaints and respond to same. Track status of cease and desist and similar correspondence for compliance. Provide paralegal support in the area of anti-piracy. Provide paralegal support related to patent prosecution efforts and a patent program. Must have 5+ years of experience in trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement in-house or with a law firm. Should preferably have Bachelorâ€™s degree or paralegal certificate. Experience with an entertainment/media company is a plus. Sound knowledge of domestic and international trademark and copyright laws is required. Experience in preparing and filing copyright applications with US Copyright Office is needed. Proficiency with MS Office and various online trademark search databases, including Compumark and Corsearch is must. Strong written and verbal communication skills is essential.
