Job Overview: A leading law firm is seeking a midlevel associate with one to five years of patent prosecution experience in biotechnology, specifically in life sciences technologies. The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree, preferably a ., in a relevant life sciences field. Patent bar membership (USPTO Registration Number) is required. Candidates who have not yet passed the patent bar exam must be prepared to take and pass the exam during the first 12 months from the date of hire. Location:

Duties:

  • Handle patent prosecution in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.
  • Draft and file patent applications, and manage the patent prosecution process.
  • Provide legal guidance on intellectual property matters related to life sciences technologies.
  • Conduct patent searches and analysis to assess patentability and freedom to operate.
  • Assist in developing and implementing patent strategies for clients in the life sciences industry.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys and clients to provide timely, high-quality services.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure compliance with relevant intellectual property laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • 1-5 years of patent prosecution experience in biotechnology or life sciences.
  • Advanced degree (preferably a .) in a life sciences technology area.
  • USPTO Registration Number required; must pass the patent bar exam within 12 months of hire if not already registered.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of life sciences technologies.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and complex legal matters simultaneously.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Advanced degree in life sciences (. preferred).

Certifications:

  • USPTO Patent Bar Registration (or willingness to take the exam within 12 months).
