Patent Docket Specialist Responsibilities: Review and process patent correspondence and documents from USPTO, WIPO, domestic and overseas counsel with adherence to strict deadlines, policies and procedures. Create newly acquired patent matters in database. Coordinate, docket, and update outside counsel material in database. Assist in quality assurance review for patent filings by noting and referring any discrepancies or omissions observed during docketing. Build database queries and prepare reports for management, Attorneys and Staff with ease. Carry out large patent projects with accuracy and efficiency. Communicate and work effectively with all levels of company Management, Attorneys, Paralegals, IP Information Management Team, and internal and external resources. Exhibit a dedication to the IP Law Department through active and unsolicited participation in departmental initiatives, committees and projects.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Associate’s degree, paralegal certification or equivalent-type education is required. 4+ years of patent-related docketing experience is required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel are required. PowerPoint is preferred. Experience using an electronic patent database is required; preferably Memotech. An understanding of patent docketing procedures and patent laws is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively work with all levels of company Management, Inventors, Outside Counsel and the United States Patent & Trademark Office, under minimum supervision is required. Capable of handling all aspects of US and OUS patent docketing is required. Proactive self-starter with the ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload, including flexibility to aid in assigned projects is required. Strong teamwork and organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail are required.
