ProfileEmployment Claims Paralegal The candidate will assist with claims and investigations by gathering documents, interviewing witnesses and drafting case / investigation summaries. Conduct legal and factual research, and draft memos. Draft correspondence to opposing counsel, former employees or other third parties. Respond to subpoenas. Prepare position statements to administrative charges, witness lists, legal hold memoranda, and other legal documents. Assist attorneys with witness preparation for testimony and responding to discovery requests. Liaise with company’s risk manager on insured claims. Providing other support to attorneys with respect to litigation and administrative proceedings or compliance investigations. Manage service of process for all litigation and track all case deadlines. Assist in preparing case budgets, and closely manage outside legal spend by liaising with outside counsel on compliance with budgets and work plans. Liaise with litigation vendors and experts. Maintain electronic litigation database by entering claims and investigations, uploading key documents, and entering status reports. Run reports in litigation management tool, and analyze historical claims and investigation data for trends / observations. Prepare claims and investigation presentations for claims and compliance meetings with executive and regional compliance committees and senior leaders. Assist in finding new counsel where needed. Monitor and ensure compliance with State and Federal Regulations. Assist attorneys with the drafting of policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with existing and contemplated federal / state / local laws and regulations. Assist in the development of training to HR and business managers on labor and employment law compliance. Work closely with employment attorneys on conducting employment risk assessments. Assist with the management of special projects identified each year. Assist in preparing agreements (e.g., employment, consulting, severance and settlement agreements).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have 10+ years of paralegal experience (prior in-house experience with a corporate legal department is preferred). Should have Paralegal training and certification, preferably from an ABA accredited institution. Prior experience with employment and litigation is required. Proficient in Windows environment including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint is needed. Proficient with matter management/e-billing system, preferably Legal Tracker (Serengeti) is must. Strong drafting and researching abilities is essential.
