Paralegal II The candidate will provide representation and assistance for difficult, challenging and high profile cases. This position's work is to participate in challenges to federal government actions, affirmative cases, and cases defending state agencies in class actions and other significant, challenging and complex cases. The paralegal assists in the discovery process to retrieve and analyze the documentation and evidence necessary to support and defend the State's case. They continue to provide assistance throughout the duration of the lawsuit. Conduct comprehensive analysis of cases which may be of complex, technical, multi-issue, with high dollar value and/or of a high profile nature. Compose and initiate formal discovery requests directed to parties and non-parties. Review and prepare responses to formal discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission, as well as CR 30(b)(6) deponents. Review opposing parties' answers to discovery requests for completeness, evasiveness, and propriety of objections and follow-up on non-responsive answers and additional sources of information. As part of a trial team, cooperate in the completion of all discovery. Identify, locate, collect, organize, analyze, assess and manage documentary, statistical, computer and demonstrative evidence. Review and analyze documents using records management and eDiscovery software programs. Analyze facts of cases; identify legal issues; develop rapport with, secure cooperation from, and interview potential witnesses. Compose comprehensive interview memoranda/reports. Interview client personnel to obtain facts and information for responses to formal discovery. Independently compose affidavits and/or declarations as attachments to motions and briefs. Create comprehensive, concise computerized reports outlining evidence to include the evaluation and analysis of the evidence for relevance, credibility, authenticity, and admissibility. Identify possible witnesses and other possible sources of information and evidence. Recommend and carry out further investigative activities. Design and utilize computer databases for document management, document tracking, and case analysis. Compose letters, pleadings and other documents for litigation by researching legal issues and completing detailed legal analysis. Conduct research which may be of a legal, medical or technical nature regarding the issues of a case. Prepare research reports. Assist at negotiation meetings (arbitration, mediation) and settlement conferences. Coordinate and work with a representative of a structured settlement company to prepare structured settlement offers. Prepare for and participate at mediation and trial. Recommend strategic options to trial team during case development and trial preparation, including analysis of legal issues, correlation of evidence, and presentation of case at trial. Prepare deposition questions and advise attorney at depositions of additional areas of inquiry. Prepare witnesses, documentary evidence, computer-generated evidence, and demonstrative evidence for trial or other testimonial proceedings. Assist attorney with voir dire, coordination of witnesses and exhibits, presentation of evidence, and analysis of witness testimony and evidence presented to the court. Evaluate case presentations. Develop, and implement computerized presentations to be utilized in the presentation of evidence at mediation and/or trial.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have following qualifications:
Option 1: Graduation from an accredited two-year paralegal program plus 2 years' experience as a paralegal.
Option 2: Graduation from an accredited four-year college and completion of a nine-month paralegal program plus 1 year experience as a paralegal.
Option 3: 3 years' experience as a paralegal.
Option 4: 2 years experience as a Paralegal 1.
