ProfileAssistant County Attorney I Duties : Perform legal services to the firm's Department of Human Services (LCDHS) and includes the handling of court and administrative cases such as Dependency and Neglect, Juvenile Delinquency, Child Support, Mental Health, and Adult Protection. Related to these subject matters, train LCDHS staff on the applicable law, and the legal aspects of case preparation and trial/hearing preparation. Involve frequent court appearances and related case preparations; drafting and filing of legal pleadings; legal research; negotiations; and attendance at meetings with LCDHS staff, counsel representing parents, children, at-risk adults, subjects of child support proceedings, and other parties involved in the litigation of Human Services matters. Provide legal advice to County staff and departments as assigned and with limited direct supervision. Research, analyze and interpret legal documents and matters. Evaluate routine legal issues; advise appropriate County personnel on recommended or required courses of action; issue legal opinions on behalf of the County; assist County staff and departments with legal inquiries or problems. Maintain caseload of pending matters and represent the County’s interests in legal disputes; to include case and trial preparations, witness interviews, discovery, and presenting cases in Court. Draft and interpret routine legal documents including opinions, briefs, contracts, reports, correspondence, and other legal and non-legal documents. Exercise supervisory responsibilities, including performance appraisal, over assigned staff. Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : The candidate should have Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited institution. Must be licensed as an attorney-at-law from the Colorado Supreme Court. Must be a member in good standing with the Colorado Bar. 1+ year of experience as a practicing attorney in juvenile and/or family law preferred. 1+ year of litigation experience preferred.
