Intellectual Property Assistant The candidate will provide a variety of supporting administrative functions within the guidelines of company policy and office procedure. Work is detailed oriented with an emphasis on numerical and technical accuracy and consistency. Work is generally short-cycled and incumbent operates under general supervision with limited guidance of Associate General Counsel IP or Intellectual Property Coordinator. Primary Responsibilities: Transmits patent related documents to foreign patent counsel. Inputs and processes US patent related documents and/or data into appropriate databases, transmitting to supervisor and/or attorney. Opens US patent related mail, analyzing correspondence to determine how it should be handled; creating and maintaining paper and/or computer file correspondence and documents. Instructs foreign patent counsel on filing of petitions for examinations. Prepares, drafts and notarizes (as necessary) legal documents for signature; preparation and routing of such legal documents. Obtains translations of foreign language documents and orders verified copies of patent applications for foreign filing. Resolves billing discrepancies with Accounts Payable. Requirements: High School Diploma required. BA degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred. 5+ years experience with a law firm or corporate law department. Experience with Patent and Trademark matters, including docketing, is preferred. Ability to accurately enter data. Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite. Basic math and proofreading skills, grammar & spelling and able to work effectively and in a team environment. Familiarization with IP software is preferred.
