Supervising Attorney II The candidate under the supervision of the Managing Attorney, supervises a team of attorneys and support staff in the handling of case files. Represents company and/or insureds, and defends arbitrations and lawsuits filed in courts of limited and unlimited jurisdiction. Under the supervision of the managing attorney, interviews and/or approves job applicants for employment. conducts and/or reviews associate performance appraisals. Initiates or approves salary adjustments, performance ratings, and other personnel changes. counsels associates and takes disciplinary action or terminates the employment of associates as appropriate. Under the supervision of the managing attorney, plans and controls activities of a team of attorneys and support staff. Coaches associates and leads work flow of lower level staff attorneys and support staff. Researches laws and prepares legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda. Renders opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the claims department. Prepares and handles pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath. Defends by trial, arbitration, or mediation all matters assigned, as applicable. Trains and leads less experienced attorneys. Adheres to the code of conduct, company policies and operating principles. Meets attendance standard of the business location, to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with subordinates and management. Meets the requirements specified below. Must be able to travel as required, including to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have license in good standing to practice law in the state of Louisiana. Must have 7 years experience in insurance defense of practice and demonstrated sufficient trial ability with primary trial responsibility in multiple cases of significant severity and complexity. Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills. Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
