A law firm seeks an experienced and highly skilled International Trade Attorney to join its team in Grand Rapids, MI. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience focused on corporate transactions involving international trade regulations. The role requires expertise in areas such as tariff classification, customs valuation, trade preference programs, counterfeiting enforcement, antidumping duties, and compliance with export control laws. The attorney will play a key role in advising clients on regulatory compliance, drafting legal documents, and managing complex international trade transactions.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on . trade regulations, including import/export laws, tariff classification, customs compliance, and trade remedy matters.
  • Handle corporate transactions involving controlled technologies and international trade regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and provide insights on regulatory compliance related to international trade.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize legal documents concerning international trade and corporate transactions.
  • Represent clients in regulatory matters, assisting with obtaining necessary licenses and approvals for trade.
  • Stay informed of developments in international trade law and guide clients on emerging regulatory issues.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant trade laws.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate transactions with a focus on international trade regulation.
  • Expertise in . trade laws, including tariff classification, customs valuation, trade remedies, and trade preference programs like USMCA.
  • Strong background in export control laws, including the export of controlled technologies.
  • Experience with antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD), Section 301 tariffs, and other trade remedies.
  • Ability to conduct detailed legal research, analyze complex trade matters, and provide practical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and client relationships in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Michigan Bar or Washington . Bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in international trade regulations and compliance issues.
  • Proficiency in trade preference programs, trade remedy applications, and related trade regulations.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal document review skills.
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Familiarity with complex regulations such as ITAR, EAR, CFIUS, and OFAC Sanctions Programs is a plus.
