Assistant Attorney General
The candidate will handle child support enforcement cases and other litigation in northern Illinois. Will represent the Department of Healthcare and Family and the Department of Human Services. While most of the litigation involves child support enforcement, will also handle personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, excess assistance recoveries, administrative review actions, bankruptcy cases in federal court, and miscellaneous matters. Appear in court several times a week and be able to manage several cases during each call, and conduct formal evidentiary hearings when settlement is not reached. Prepare pleadings and responses to motions, and research legal issues.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application. Should have a demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work and experience handling a high volume of cases. Travel is required, as the office is responsible for child support cases in Will, Kendall, Grundy, LaSalle, Kankakee, and Bureau Counties. Excellent litigation and negotiation skills are a must. Should also have superior interpersonal skills as attorneys must maintain good working relationships with court officials and agency staff, as well as interact with the families needing child support enforcement services.
