Family Law Paralegal/Legal Assistant Duties: Answer the office phone and talk with clients, opposing parties/counsel. Create, organize, maintain and close physical and electronic client files. Work with clients to prepare/review/file their documents. Prepare and efile court documents. Maintain the calendaring system (Chronilist program) for case deadlines. Draft correspondence and obtain court documents. Organize and prepare mediation and trial notebooks. Some assistance with billing (Time Slips program). Filing legal and membership information; creating/updating forms. Preparing WA State Bar forms and similar documents.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Bachelorâ€™s degree and prior experience in family law (3-5 years, having worked on many cases start to finish) is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe and Excel. Ability to use or quickly learn Chronilist, Time Slips and Message Save (for emails). Experience with personal computers and Windows 7, including file management. Knowledge of Washington State and King County Local Rules, esp. Civil, Family & Evidence. Time management and organizational skills, multi-tasking and prioritizing as needed. Discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive subject matter. Curiosity and drive to learn new things, both legal and technological.
