The RO handles state counsel representation, defending the state of New York and its agencies, officials, and employees in state courts in various civil actions and proceedings. The role also involves defending claims brought against the state in the Court of Claims. As an Assistant Attorney General, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse and stimulating litigation practice, handling all phases of litigation from inception through trial. This role also offers frequent opportunities to appear in court, providing valuable courtroom experience. The ideal candidate will have strong writing, analytical, organizational, negotiation, and supervisory skills. Applicants must be admitted to practice law in New York state and reside in the state, or intend to become a resident soon. They must also be citizens of the United States, as required by the Public Officers Law. A two-year commitment is a condition of employment.
