Associate Counsel Responsibilities: Providing legal advice in the following general areas: general litigation, employment law, corporate and general business matters, regulatory compliance, contractual matters, medical staff issues, clinical and patient care issues, risk management, administrative proceedings, and policy development among other such matters. 1) Handles adversarial proceedings, including grievances, investigations, assessments and advises leadership regarding potential liabilities. Receives, reviews, and takes appropriate action on information regarding potential and actual compensatory events. Provides insurance carriers and/or legal counsel with all requested information and documents related to potential or pending litigation. Participates in legal and/or administrative proceedings. 2) Interpret or otherwise obtain interpretation of federal and state laws affecting the Authority; complex analysis of federal and state laws and regulations regarding health care and research related issues. 3) Prepare new contracts and review existing or proposed contracts and vendor arrangements. Review contracts. 4) Assist management with clinical and patient care issues. Evaluate patient/family social issues as they are brought forward and provide sound advice in a timely fashion; provide advice regarding consents, involuntary commitments, guardianships, and probate matters. 5) Educate clinicians and other employees on health care related legal and compliance issues including ethics-related issues. Routinely provide groups and individuals with advice and educational information.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD degree from an accredited law school, member in good standing with the S.C. Bar Association, and 5+ years of health law or compliance experience as a licensed attorney, preferably including transactional and litigation experience. Member in good standing with the S.C. Bar Association.
