Librarian, GS 9 Duties : Provides reference and research assistance to library customer. Performs original or modified descriptive cataloging in machine-readable cataloging format. Participates in collection management and evaluation for the library by developing factual data, such as usage statistics. Develops and implements long range automation plans for the library within the parameters defined by the supervisor. Assists the senior librarian in publicity and marketing of library services.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : Must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Individual Occupational Requirements for Librarian Series, 1410. Basic Requirements:Education: Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. OR A total of at least five (5) years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. Specialized Experience: Must have 1+ year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems (may have been obtained in the military, public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience includes ensuring consistent application of cataloging rules and procedures, and agency policies, regulations; providing professional library services in a documentation section and/or a Government Printing Office depository within a library; keep work area secure and use all necessary precautions when adding bibliographic records to thee classified catalog, such as logging in and out of the system; utilize specialized print and online resources to correctly translate the bibliographic information sources on foreign materials sufficiently to enable subject and scope of coverage of the titles to be cataloged; professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and techniques of librarianship to perform the professional duties of the position. OR Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position. OR Combination Of Education And Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position. Federal Time-In-Grade (tig) Requirement For General Schedule (gs) Positions: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
