Entry-level Workers' Compensation Legal Assistant The candidate will type general correspondence, memorandum, and complex legal documents according to the requirements set by each practice group. Transcribe dictation tapes (letters, memos of law, motions, and briefs). Proofread documents and checks for appropriate formatting, spelling, and grammar. Prepare check requests for processing with appropriate backup and timely submission to accounting for payment. Type and coordinate expense reports. Enter and edit the attorney’s time into the timekeeping system within deadlines as required. Maintain attorney(s’) appointment calendar, files in an efficient and effective manner. Prepare and update attorney case lists. Prepare materials for distribution via U.S. mail, fax, courier, messenger, etc. Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with the firm policies. Interact professionally with clients, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, all other staff, and other representatives outside of the firm. Handle pressure, interruptions, and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should preferably have 1-5 years of relevant experience; experience with E-file, calendaring, and docketing deadlines; billing experience; exceptional organization skills; positive attitude; excellent typing skills; ability to multitask; ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment; familiarity with electronic filing in Federal and State Court; the ability to type approximately 65 – 75 words per minute. Should be teamwork-oriented; proficient in Microsoft Office programs; motivated with the goal of becoming a long-term asset within the organization.
