Corporate Litigation Paralegal The candidate will be responsible for providing paralegal support and working with attorneys on a variety of litigation matters, including class action and other complex lawsuits, as well as other disputes filed in federal and state courts and with various governmental agencies. Prepares memos, briefs and documents for review and evaluation by others. Drafts chronologies, reviews and summarizes records, and maintains electronic case files. Assists attorneys with coordination of discovery activities. Maintains and updates legal databases and SharePoint sites as applicable. Performs occasional complex legal research (example: using PACER to check dockets; using Westlaw or other legal research tools to pull cases). Creates and manages preservation orders. May index, catalog, scan and photocopy when necessary. May coordinate and/or perform litigation support project work. No travel required Occasional extra hours may be required during business peaks or to meet litigation deadlines.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelor's degree or Paralegal certificate and 2 years related work experience in a legal environment. In lieu of a degree or Paralegal certificate, 4 years paralegal-level work experience is needed. Litigation paralegal experience is necessary for this role. Civil litigation and/or employment litigation experience is strongly preferred. Should have strong familiarity with all aspects of the litigation process and solid knowledge of legal terminology. Must have ability to operate a personal computer with a good working knowledge of the following software applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint. Experience with electronic discovery is a plus. Defense experience preferred. Working in the Corporate Litigation and Employment Practice Group within Progressiveâ€™s Corporate Law Department, will possess a wide range of skills, including: a strong working knowledge of legal terminology; the ability to collect, analyze and coordinate data and legal materials; the ability to manage discovery tasks and dynamic priorities; strong organizational and communication skills; familiarity with court rules and procedures; the ability to develop strong internal and external working relationships; and excellent customer service and time management skills. Work with a collaborative and personable legal team on a broad range of litigation activities across Progressiveâ€™s corporate litigation and employment litigation portfolio.
