Job Overview: The Life Sciences Patent Agent will play a crucial role in the firm's patent practice, primarily focused on life sciences fields such as molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. This role involves preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications, conducting prior art searches, and providing valuable insights on patentability. The agent will also engage in practice development activities, maintain client relationships, and contribute to patent clearance studies.

Duties:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct prior art searches and perform in-depth analysis to support patent applications.
  • Provide patentability analysis and intellectual property (IP) due diligence.
  • Engage in practice development activities to establish and nurture client relationships.
  • Prepare substantive client correspondence regarding patent matters.
  • Instruct local counsel for foreign filings and manage Office Actions.
  • Assist in patent clearance studies and collaborate on patent-related opinion projects.
  • Apply advanced concepts in various life sciences fields, with an emphasis on molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.
  • Study and analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to evaluate patentability, novelty, and inventiveness.
  • Convert prior provisional applications into utility applications.
  • Convert foreign filed applications into . applications and vice versa.

Requirements:

  • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field, including Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Biomedical Engineering, with excellent academic credentials.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a practicing patent agent in the field of life sciences.
  • Registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:
