2018 Summer Internship The intern will gain first-hand experience in criminal defense and client representation by observing every aspect of criminal court proceedings for felony cases; participating in the trial preparation and strategy meetings with trial attorneys, and completing general legal research assignments. Interns will directly interact with attorneys, support staff, and clients. Intern will also attend a week-long conference hosted by the Georgia Public Defender Council at which Public Defenders from across the state will be present. This internship program is designed to introduce promising students to the practice of criminal law and the honor of indigent defense. Interns must be entering the 2L or 3L year. Accepted interns must provide their own accommodations in or within commuting distance of Savannah. The internship is unpaid. Accepted interns are encouraged to seek their own grant funding for pro bono student positions assisting non-profit legal entities. Note : The 10-week internship will begin in early June 2018 and conclude in early August 2018.
