Bilingual Staff Attorney Duties: Direct contact with own clients and will expand capacity by training and managing pro bono lawyers and law students. Work in community education and advocacy and will represent the organization in meetings of local coalitions on immigrant and women’s rights. In keeping with the organization’s effort to reach under-served communities, will work one day/week on LI’s East End and the work hours may include some nights and weekends.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Must have graduated from an ABA-accredited law school and be admitted (or have admission pending) to practice law in the New York State. Should have 2 years' experience in immigration practice, including self-petitions, U visas, T visas, and consular processing of derivative beneficiaries. Must be passionate, motivated, creative, organized, and skilled collaborator. Will have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and some experience with community lawyering in the areas of women’s rights or domestic violence. (Internships, externships or volunteer work may qualify.) Given the organization’s membership, Spanish fluency is required. Start Date: 11/01/2018 Application Deadline: 10/23/2018
