Corporate Counsel - Labor And Employment
The candidate will support human resources and other internal business stakeholders in the U.S. Some international responsibilities as well. Advise and counsel on the rights and obligations of the company concerning a broad array of issues such as EEO and affirmative action law, traditional labor law, pension and benefits, internal investigations, etc. Act as a trusted advisor to all levels of company management, providing legal and practical advice within appropriate business contexts. Influence or contribute to achievement of overall company goals and objectives. Develop and implement labor and employment best practices for the company. Assist with development and implementation of relevant policies, procedures, and training programs for HR and other internal business stakeholders. Provide real-time support to collective bargaining teams during union negotiations and partner with Corporate Labor Relations and business leaders to develop bargaining strategies in advance thereof. Engage in project and matter management inside and outside of the legal function. Manage and oversee external legal counsel performance across the full range of labor and employment issue areas. Assist with development and implementation of global legal strategies and initiatives. May supervise and/or mentor one or more junior lawyers, paralegals or administrative assistant. Act as a resource to others and a member of a global team. Must have deep understanding of employment law issues including, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, leaves of absence, Fair Labor Standards Act and other compensation issues, disability accommodations, performance management, employee mobility, and data privacy. Must have employment litigation experience. Should have traditional labor experience (e.g., CBA negotiation and administration, grievances, arbitrations, union campaigns, etc.). Must have 5+ years, prefer 7-10 years, experience in substantive employment and traditional labor law practice. Some employment litigation and/or labor arbitration experience required. Pension and benefits experience a plus. A mix of in-house and private practice experience preferred. Must have Degree in law. Should have Licensed to practice law in at least one United States jurisdiction.
